OSSTF/FEESO Celebrates Franco-Ontarian Day

TORONTO, ON - Sep 25 2011 -  Today, we celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day in the province of Ontario. This Day officially recognizes the contribution of Ontario's Francophone community to the cultural, historical, social, economic and political life of our province. We have close to 600,000 Francophones in Ontario, the largest Francophone community outside of Quebec.

To honour OSSTF/FEESO’s 5000 Francophone members, OSSTF/FEESO planted a tree to commemorate the inaugural celebration last year. We also now proudly fly the Franco-Ontarian flag at OSSTF/FEESO’s Provincial Office in Toronto.

“On behalf of OSSTF/FEESO’s 60,000 members, I congratulate and thank all the members of Ontario’s Francophone community for their many contributions to both Ontario’s history and future,” said Ken Coran, President of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF/FEESO).  “We especially pay tribute to our Francophone members who work in the public education system and assist students to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes they need to build successful futures,” concluded Coran.
