TORONTO, ON - Oct 26 2011 -
“Our Federation is proud in its role of protecting and enhancing Public Education,” says Ken Coran, president of OSSTF/FEESO. “Our members believe that all students deserve a broad range of learning opportunities and that each one of them must be given the opportunity to be successful and make a positive contribution to our society.”
“We look forward to working with our new Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities on all education issues,” says Ken Coran.” In particular, we will continue to advocate for reliable operational funding for post-secondary institutions, adequate staffing levels for faculty and support staff, as well as a commitment to lower tuitions.”
“We know that Glen Murray’s experience both in municipal politics and as Minister of Research and Innovation will give him a unique perspective on the importance of post-secondary education in Ontario,” says Coran.
“OSSTF/FEESO and this government have worked collaboratively on many Educational issues, from the Early Learning Plan to University funding,” says Coran. “I am confident that we will continue to work together on these and other issues in the near future”
OSSTF/FEESO, founded in 1919, has 60,000 members across Ontario. They include public high school teachers, occasional teachers, educational assistants, continuing education teachers and instructors, psychologists, secretaries, speech-language pathologists, social workers, plant support personnel, attendance counsellors, and many others in education.
